Now

Red Oak, Glass, 30X16, 2014

The cone sits inside a rail where it could slide to the left or right. Its positioned directly in front of the lens.

Because the cone sits motionless --like a photograph-- what is defined as forward or backward has no context.

Now is not something we see but rather something we watch ourselves seeing.

"I read at the same time: This will be and this has been; I observe with horror an anterior future of which death is the stake. By giving me the absolute past of the pose (aorist), the photograph tells me death in the future." --Camera Lucida p.96 Roland Barthes
